December is a busy month for all brass band calendars and this year was no exception for the Sir Richard Arkwright’s Masson Mills Band. The band performed on 3 rd December at Belper School in Derbyshire as part of the inaugural concert for Ignite UK. Ignite UK are a female barber shop chorus from Derbyshire who have also adopted Challenge Derbyshire as their chosen charity. In addition to this, the band hosted our annual Christmas spectacular concert at The Winding Wheel in Chesterfield on Sunday 18 th December at 3pm. This concert has always provided an exciting afternoon of entertainment for all ages and this year was no different! We are delighted to announce that over £3,000 was raised for our incredible charities from our Christmas Spectacular concert. Thank you to everyone who has come along and supported the band during 2016.
The band are proud to be invited to play at Matlock Bath Remembrance Day ceremony this year on Sunday 13 th November. The band will play a selection of Hymns and the Last Post.
This July the band were delighted to have the opportunity to record a CD at the Tilly Recording Studios in Great Longstone. The band were joined by our Conductor, David Mapleston and enjoyed a full weekend of recording. The CD is expected to be released in early September, to be available for purchase in selected Charity shops and at our concerts, with the proceeds to be donated to selected charities. The band recorded several movie favourites including; Symphonic Highlights from Frozen, Londonderry Air, Death or Glory and Born Free to name a few. The band worked hard throughout the recording and ended the weekend with a well deserved Sunday lunch at The Merchant Yard Restaurant in Tideswell. The following weekend the band played a further concert at Bakewell Town Hall with the Perfect Pitch Choir. This concert saw a full audience with over £1,000 being raised for the Goboka Rwanda Trust. This concert was a great success and we are always pleased to be invited to be part of this great event each year.
The band were pleased to host their annual Christmas concert at the Winding Wheel in Chesterfield. This year the band was accompanied by special guests; the Perfect Pitch Children’s choir and children from the Great Longstone Primary School. As usual, the concert was well received with a plentiful audience. The concert raised over £1,000 towards several good causes, including Challenge Derbyshire. Following the great success of this years’ concert, the band plan to return next year for further festivities.
